Sport organizations and their animal emblems

All over the world, thousands of clubs proudly display animals on their logos: lions, wolves, tigers, eagles, bears, elephants, bulls, sharks, pumas... These emblems have become powerful symbols of strength, courage, and identity.

Yet most of these species are currently endangered in the wild!

Our interactive map reveals, for the first time, the extent of this link between sport and biodiversity and how it can become a powerful lever for mobilization.

This map is the result of scientific work carried out by an international research team led by researchers from Paris-Saclay University.

It lists more than 700 men's and women's teams from ten team sports (soccer, American football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, handball, cricket, rugby union and rugby league, ice hockey), whose emblem represents an animal species, in more than 40 countries.
